Harsh reality? It's exceedingly difficult to get published in a literary magazine.

As for Medium, I don't write for views, check reader stats, concern myself with followers, or write to what's trending or popular. I quite happily write for me.

I enjoy success measured by engagement where others feel my stories, and enjoy my characters and am incredibly pleased and humbled to have over a dozen boosted pieces, a few pieces recognized outside of Medium.

And when my peers reach out and express admiration for what I write. That feels best of all.
