I always wondered about “maths” seemed incorrect to me. Good to know

In the UK, we typically say “sport”, rather than “sports”, though confusingly we also say “maths” rather than “math”. Why do British maths come in plural, but we only do the one sport? No idea, just as I’ve no idea why…
