I think this is clearly a “her” problem, not a you problem, even though she has legitimate grounds to be defensive (out of context) tying a personal opinion about a food item without drawing any sort of line to its ethnic/racial origin is a mighty stretch.
There are Hungarian foods I class as disgusting.. lecho, a stew of peppers, tomatoes and sausage is gross because it uses green peppers, which in any dish, cooked is gross. Okra? Gross. Fiddleheads? Yuck.
The accountability of giving an emotional response without any sort of investigation but an abundance of assumption on her part about you is the bigger issue.
Had she paused a moment and researched who you are as a human being, she might lessoned her attack seeing as you have demonstrated and continue to show that you are an enormously gracious, intelligent and deeply caring human with impeccable morals and ethics.
I wouldn’t eat Rat either. That’s 100% yuck. Maybe a country rat, a free-range grain fed rat. Maybe. But a rat within a mile of civilization? No thank you.
I will, however continue to look up to you as an example of the kind of person I want to be and have my daughter emulate. There’s no “yuck” in that.
