I think you're assessment is fair. A good film, provocative and repulsive, clever and blunt. But a great film? On the same shelf as "Classics?" I don't think so. For me, "Classics" are movies that I consider ones that must be seen, ones that inspire and challenge us to be better than we tend to be, daily. For those reasons, Fight Club is good, killer performances, but not a classic.
