I write fiction here, and if I wasn't a part of a great community of writer's in a private FB group, I would write a lot more of it.
Success wise, I've had some success. A 1st and 2nd placing in contests, plus a couple of runner-ups. The read numbers are okay but this is due to a) having a group of writer's that read, write and seek out fiction, b) hustling those fiction stories across many fb groups, insta and linkedIN.
Although I do have a favorite genre of fiction for my writing, I try and branch out as much as possible by taking on prompts and challenges.
Aside from that, find your voice and style, and write the type of stories YOU love. Genres that you read. That will translate to your writing. When I do that, I fall all the way in and write for me, then give it away and don't worry a wink about stats or opinions.
Despite follower numbers being big, as The Lark has, reads are generally low. The best Pubs for me, for reads are Fictions, and Pure Fiction.
If you financial returns or great exposure, then submit pieces to online Lit Mags that are constantly calling for pieces in practically all genres.
Keep writing!
