Revelation

My daughter suffers the effects of food shame when eating at a friends.

I just retrieved my daughter from hockey practice. I hadn’t seen her in a while. Last night she was away at one friend’s for a sleepover and then migrated to another’s today for study, play, supper and then hockey.

During the ride home she vented.

“Dad. You’d think it would be great to be the child of a Chef. But it’s not.” she stated.

“Excuse me?” I said.

“I mean, it’s great, it really is. All my friends love coming over to our place. We have the rink and stuff but they all talk about how much they love to eat your food. That part is cool.” Then the little nugget went on with a sigh.

“But every time I’m at someone’s house and they feed me, they say the same thing.” — “Oh I hope this is ok. I’m not as good a cook as your Dad. I’m sorry if it’s not good. You don’t have to eat it if you don’t want to. Every. Single. Time. And it’s good food. I told Mrs. P it was good and she says, “Well, I wouldn’t call it good. But I try. Dad, it was like junk food good. I ate everything.”
