There is more required for a child’s proper education than school alone

I was driving my daughter to hockey practice and as per usual, she ran the stereo. When I told her not play the super sad kid (who’s really good btw) singing about his sister, my daughter asked me what I wanted to hear.

“Hit me with something that has edge.” I replied.

She thumbed through her Spotify, chose her playlist, then hit me with it.

Her Revelation-“Okay Dad, but this might be too Punk for you.”

Too punk for me? TOO PUNK?

You’re twelve and telling me what’s too punk? Getdafeckouttahere!

I looked at her with disbelief and a shred of disgust then replied.

“It doesn’t matter what you’re going to play. It’s not real Punk”

It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t good. The band had the raw, unpolished, garage sound but slightly better. The lyrics were angry and funny but I didn’t get same feel of young starving artists being ridiculed, rejected and raging about it.

Epiphany.

The kid needs a true Punk playlist. From when it began, from those Brits, Germans and disenfranchised American youth. I have work to do.
