It’s good to laugh when you might be dying — totally joking, I’m not terminal

Mild Epiphany. Some of the best laughs come from pain.

It’s an old adage of writers and comedians. Laughter heals pain, and yesterday I was living proof of the process.

We had returned from our East Coast summer only the day before, and as expected, the yard was in dire need of some TLC. I walked onto our hockey rink and stepped out the back gate to retrieve the compost bin. Weeds needed pulling and disposal.

I hadn’t made it back to the rink floorboard when I was suddenly swarmed by wasps. Very angry wasps. In the blink of an eye I was getting stung. The swarm kept coming at me. By the time I made it to the front gate, I had nearly fallen over the now discarded bin, and struggled to make my escape as stings kept coming and the buzz grew louder.

Screaming and cursing while fighting them off as best I could, I stumbled, then dove into the house.

Sweating profusely, panicked and terrorized, I scurried into the kitchen.

My wife came rushing in to see what was going on and the rest? Well, the rest I leave to the reporting.
