Humor on the way to hockey
Revelation: Life doesn’t always deliver smiles.
It’s hockey season again, or as I like to call it, Smelly Kid Season.
We’re loaded in the car; another round of evaluations/tryouts are underway. This is the most stressful part of the season for parents, and sometimes for the kids as well — strangers will be judging your child based on what they observe during your skaters one minute or less shifts.
If they manage to watch your kid at all.
The evaluators have a tough job, there are 40 skaters to watch. When the evaluators have their heads down making notes, they are missing the efforts of the ten on the ice.
Each skater will have approximately 10–12 minutes of ice time through 60 minutes of play.
At the end, their checkmarks will designate where your child belongs. And the decision is final.
A kid can have a great skate, and not be seen at all. Or the kid can have a bad shift, and that’s the one they mark.
It’s challenging all around.
