Much like Paul Combs, who I consider a mentor and teacher, I continued to think about this prompt. I like that it’s a small challenge; two songs by two artists and a simple, senseless scoring scheme.

This makes the Rate-a-Record challenge much more manageable than the tsunami of “Best songs/movies for every year you’ve been alive” type challenge. I noped that idea as soon as I read the title.

Listening to a pair of songs set into a short read is also manageable. That’s a win-win for me, and I’ve also enjoyed this challenge because, in most of the submissions, writers introduced me to voices and melodies I had not heard. Discovery is education, and I love to learn.

For my second go-round in this Rate-a-Record, I’ve chosen two male artists I like quite a bit. One is fairly big time, though not necessarily “mainstream,” while the other is a small fish in a big pond.

So, have a listen if you will, and then cast your rating on the Rate-a-Record scale of 35–98. Comments to explain the counts are always appreciated.
