Tracks for Beach Days and Summer Love

I’m battling some serious seaside envy. My wife and daughter are enjoying the best summer days visiting family on the Atlantic coast. Meanwhile, due to starting a new job, I’m lingering in the forest fire haze of western Canada. Today, while the sun looked more like Mars and the smoke was so thick you could feel it on your teeth, my little clan made the jaunt from Nova Scotia to PEI. If you don’t know, PEI that’s Prince Edward Island-our smallest province. It is considered the Florida of Canada. The entire region is a summer playground with endless and sparsely populated beaches and fun parks.

Even though I was born in the landlocked mountains of the British Columbia interior, I am a water baby. Lakes and rivers are fine, and there’s no better fishing than that of cold alpine waters, but even that doesn’t compare to my love for the sea. During the summers, when I could join my family and travel back to my wife’s homelands of Nova Scotia, I spent as much time as possible at the beach and most of that time in the water.

In the same way that a remote mountain river replenishes my patience for the world, the ocean centers my soul. There’s magic in the tides and…
