Inspiration comes from great places, moments, and people. Regarding the latter, I am happy to stand in the shadow of Paul Combs and with his reaching #22 on his Rate-a-Record run, I don’t feel the least bit bad about marking my 6th edition.

Due to unfortunate yet blessed circumstances, my butt remains planted in my comfy office chair while my eyes stare at a screen, reading and writing most hours of each day. Aside from the wicked days when my physical ailments beat me into submission, I am here, doing what I once only imagined possible — writing for a living.

Like most writers, I am firmly in the “poor” working class, still underwater but not drowning. I’m squeaking by while still hoping for the “lucrative” times to arrive.

And while the struggle is real, I cannot measure the richness of being home, available to my family, and missing nothing (though there have been conversations I would have loved not to…
