“Reckless” Summer Nights-The Canadian Summer Album by Bryan Adams
It’s Only Love in the Summer of 69' and the Kids Wanna Rock
When I read Paul Combs Summer Album piece and found myself invited down memory lane of sweaty summer nights set to music, one album immediately came to mind.
Bryan Adams-Reckless.
The 1984 album release hit when I was eleven. So naturally, I didn’t get into the meat of the heat of hot summer nights until about five years later. But, at sixteen, this album was still sending fists pumping, hips shaking, and best of all — girls dancing.
As a Canadian kid having a kick-ass, feel-good, rock-n-roll album by one of our own was awesome, and that Adams was from BC, my home province, made it even sweeter.
I lived in a wild, wide-open small town in the Canadian Rockies, and the never-ending expanse of thick forests was our playground. Weekend bush parties were the norm where bonfires, booze, and rambunctious young bodies rocked out beneath a blanket of stars.
