The treatment methods in those days were indeed barbaric and the “counselours” were terrible and poorly educated. My wife is a teachers aid working with these types of kids and the stories are from her days are incredible. But with the correct counseling and proper medication when required, makes a huge improvement in the lives of those children. A good read.
