When reading, I tend to skip over descriptive paragraphs and never understood how anyone else could find them worthwhile. Unless some physical quality of a character is repeated multiple times, I have absolutely no idea what they look like. I will sometimes have to reread an earlier section of the story to understand, for example, whether a character could plausibly see over a crowded room or win a fight with a bear.
