My question, or surprise is--Is it truly profitable? I have a good number of followers on Medium (for me) but only one referral member. Are people really paying for subscriptions per person? I'm not sure why you would pay one person $5 when you get everyone for $5 at Medium.

Side note- I have a submission in for The Book Cafe, and the turn around is usually very quick, and it's only been a day but wondering if you there is a schedule as I try and avoid publishing more than once a day with others waiting to be submitted.
